THUJA PYRAMIDALIS - THE PRESS PLANT OF THE MONTH - APRIL 2011
This upright evergreen tree with a narrow columnar habit oozes structure and form. Where space is limited and height is desired Thuja pyramidalis is the one that you want!
Its erect, pyramid form provides a strong vertical line and it is perfect for accentuating driveways and ertrances with it obelisk like geometric lines. Lined up military style, Thuja can be used as a green hedge and living screen.
Native to Eastern Canada and the US and a member of the cypress plant family, Thuja occidentalis pyramidalis is happily at home in New Zealand. It prefers full sun and while it does best in moist, well drained soil, it will tolerate poor or clay soil (we have even thrown liquefaction at it, at our house - just to test it capabilities of course; nothing to do with Mother Nature). If used as hedging, shear lightly to maintain its shape.
