ASTELIA SILVER SPEAR - THE PRESS PLANT OF THE MONTH APRIL 2009
Originating from Chatham Islands, this little beauty has become one of New Zealand's most popular structured plants. You could be forgiven for thinking that its leaves have been accidently sprayed with metallic silver paint. So stunning is this colouring that it will enliven even the darkest corner of your garden. And whilst its illuminating colour will enrich your garden, its dominant leaf shape acts as a wonderful contrast to differing foliage plants. From a pot specimen at your front door to courtyard planting, Astelia 'Silver Spear' will add a shimmer of interest to any planting plan.
Thriving on neglect and inattention will give you an indication of Astelia 'Silver Spear's' level of tolerance. It is happiest in full sun or light shade and except for the occasional removal of any older brown leaves this is one plant happy to be left alone. Gardening Solutionz's Astelia 'Silver Spear' are available now in Garden Centres as a Structured Solutionz.
Press Gardening has five Astelia 'Silver Spear' plants to give away. To enter the draw, write your name and address on the back of an envelope and send it to Astelia Giveaway, Press Gardening, PO Box 1005, Christchurch 8140, to reach us no later than noon on Wednesday 8th April 2009.
Congratulations to our winners - Stephen and Kay Harris, Mrs J Barr, D Arnold, Karen Grice and Reto Oswald who each won a Gardening Solutionz Astelia Silver Spear by entering the draw.
