These plants are specific to use in gardens along edges where plants of low habit are required to compliment a taller background and they are also useful for keeping the surface of the soil cool during the summer months.

This colourful, prostrate coprosma hailing from the Chatham Islands has small, glossy cream and green variegated foliage delightfully coloured with soft peach hues. An adaptable plant that looks good combined with plants that have burgundy, deep red or chocolate foliage such as Loropetalum China Pink, Euphorbia Tui or Cotinus Royal Purple. Suited to courtyards, pots, borders and rockeries it is perfect for low maintenance gardens. It can tolerate most climatic situations, including coastal throughout New Zealand and is best suited to well drained soils. This plant is approximately two years old when it reaches the garden centre and will double in size over the next two years eventually growing to a height of 30 cm x 1 metre if desired.

The following excerpt appeared in The Press newspaper June 2008:
While the Chatham Islands emerged above sea level a long time ago, a far more recent emergence from the islands is now available. Coprosma Autumn Haze is a real show off. This groundcover has glossy cream and varigated foliage, with soft-peach and apricot tones and looks fresh and bright year-round. It is adaptable, compact and easy to grow, suppresses weeds and loves the coast. From coastal banks to hanging baskets and courtyards, Coprosma Autumn Haze makes itself at home. A prostrate plant, it makes a strong statement among natives, especially when planted in front of phormiums or as a ground cover among strong-coloured foliage such as Loropetalum China Pink or Euphorbia Kea.

Lithopsermum Grace Ward (aka Lithodora Grace Ward) is one of the most popular groundcovers around and prized for the exquisite, cobalt blue, small funnel-shaped flowers that smother it all summer through. It also gets top marks for its perpetual coating of dark-green foliage, for its hardiness and for its mat-forming habits.

It is great as a rockery plant, on walls and banks or as a general groundcover plant.
It goes well with the lime green flowers of Euphorbia Kea or the swordlike silver leaves of Astelia Silver Spears.
It loves full sun to partial sun and moderate watering.
It grows to a height of 30cm and a width of 1m - if desired.
Available from most garden centres.
