PHORMIUM ELFIN - THE PRESS PLANT OF THE MONTH JULY 2010
Our pick this month - Phormium Elfin has stiff, fine mahogany-bronze leaves with slight green undertones and is topped off with twisted tips. These kinked ends of its leaves, really sets it apart from other Phormiums on the market.
A perfect companion to grasses, astelias and hebes, Phormium Elfin can be spotted around town - look out for it on your local roundabout/roadside planting. At home, Phormium Elfins bronze colouring can be used as an accent planting. From a pot in a courtyard to en masse planting in a large garden setting, Phormium Elfin will make a dramatic statement.
Phormium Elfin is a little toughie thriving in almost all New Zealand soil and climatic conditions. Growing to just 1m x 1m it is a relatively compact native flax that enjoys full sun/part shade.
