PETUNIA RASPBERRY BLAST AND TUI VEGGIE & GARDEN CLUB
The five winners of the Tui Veggie & Garden Club Petunia Raspberry Blast provided some fantastic container planting tips:
- When filling the pot with potting mix place it in a larger pot or bucket so that any spill are caught - Tui potting mix is too good to waste. (Alison Cresswell from Cambridge)
- Don't throw away the dirt from old pot plants, alive or dead, no matter how old. Break up the soil and distribute it in your compost bin it will help make great compost. (Lorriane Peck from Te Awamutu)
- My planting tips for pots is to place chunks of polystyrene in the base before adding potting mix and plants. This provides drainage, saves on potting mix and makes the pot lighter and easier to move. (Janene Joll from Rotorua)
- Put all my cold tea on my plants. They love it and really go for it. I had rubber plants that never grew any new leaves so in disgust I emptied the teapot on the soil. After that every week I got a new leaf. (Peggy Beckett from Auckland)
- To keep my pot plants from drying out over the summer while we are on holiday, I fill 2 litre coke bottles with water and place one next to each pot plant, then I put a cloth (tea towel) into the bottle and put the other end in to the pot plant - keeps pot plants moist for a few weeks. (Adrienne Smith from Auckland)
Congratulations to the five winners - we hope you enjoy your Petunia Raspberry Blast!
