GRISELINIA 'BROADWAY MINT' - THE PRESS PLANT OF THE MONTH - MAY 2009
A selected form of the ever popular Griselinia (indigenous to Chile and New Zealand) 'Broadway Mint' has deep green oval leaves which are notably thick and very shiny. If you are looking for a hedge with a bit of difference and height, Griselinia 'Broadway Mint' with its broader leaves that give a more compact effect is the perfect selection. It is also the perfect selection for a container plant with its glossy foliage and deep colouring.
Not easily dissuaded by Canterburys weather patterns, 'Broadway Mint' is not only wind and drought tolerant, but frost hardy. A key to its tolerance of wind is the fact that the name littoralis, means of the seashore; a true indication that is is one toughy which it comes to coastal conditions. So hardy by nature, this is one good all rounder plant that will require very little maintenance. We recommend trimming to 2m by 1m for a well established screen.
The Press Gardening in association with Gardening Solutionz have 5 plants to give away. To enter the draw, write your name and address on the back of an envelope and send it to Griselinia Giveaway, Press Gardening, PO Box 1005, Christchurch 8140, to reach us no later than noon on Wednesday 6th May 2009.
